It’s fun designing cakes for girls. They like everything pink and frilly and cute. The thing is, this particular little girl is a serious tomboy and specifically stated that she wanted no pink anywhere on her cake.
She wanted something with no fuss, no frills but her cousin, the young lady placing the order would have loved nothing more! I thought a polka dot cake using colours the birthday girl likes would be perfect.
And I added her name in fondant at the top to make her cousin happy. Since I couldn’t find food grade wire, I used toothpicks. Finding ones perfectly smooth with no splinters was definitely a task. Driving with these guys already on the cake was a mistake. The day was so hot and by the time we got there, the lettered circles were ready to collapse. Thankfully I was able to save them. Phew!
I was a bit concerned that the cake was a bit too simple since she’s a little girl after all but when I delivered it, the “Wow! It’s so pretty!” from the birthday girl was enough to make my day.
